DJK staff must meet certain criteria prior to employment. They must not have been convicted of, nor pled nolo contendere to any felony or certain misdemeanors. They must be at least 21 years old, drug free, have a clean driving record, and pass an OSBI background check. Prior work history and the DHS Abuse Registry is also checked by DJK. Extensive training that meets all DDSD requirements, in addition to individual-specific training needs, is provided to the staff prior to employment, as well as appropriate in-service trainings that the agency conducts.

The senior administrative staff of DJK has over 100 years of combined experience in working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Some have even been employed since the incorporation of DJK. These individuals are considered an integral part of the DJK family.
